The confusion is real. Many people wonder: Does God actually want a relationship with me? Am I worthy? Does He care about my life specifically, or am I just one of billions?
If you’ve asked yourself these questions, you’re not alone. This confusion is at the heart of so much spiritual struggle. But the answer is simpler and more profound than you might think.
God doesn’t just want a relationship with you. He has already decided it. The question isn’t whether He wants you—it’s whether you’ll learn to hear Him when He calls.
Let me show you five undeniable signs that God wants a personal relationship with you.
1. You Were Created in His Image
Genesis 1:27 tells us: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
This isn’t accidental. You weren’t created as an afterthought or a cosmic accident. You were created in God’s image—which means you carry something of His nature within you.
But here’s what most people miss: You were created to understand Him, to know Him, to relate with Him. The capacity for intimacy with God isn’t something you have to earn or develop through years of spiritual discipline. It’s something you were born with.
Think about it. Every human being has a deep longing for connection, meaning, and purpose. Why? Because you were designed for a relationship with God. That longing you feel, that’s not emptiness. That’s your design calling you home.
2. He Values a Relationship With You So Much He Was Willing to Die
This is where it gets personal.
God loves us, but He is also just. Justice demands a price for sin. The wages of sin is death—not just physical death, but total separation from God. Eternal separation. That’s what we deserve.
But here’s the miracle: He paid it on our behalf. Not because He had to. But because He wanted you back.
Jesus didn’t die because God was forced to save humanity. He died because God decided your relationship was worth dying for. He looked at you—with all your flaws, all your failures, all your mess—and said, “This person is worth it. I’m going to restore what was broken.”
That’s not an obligation. That’s love. That’s how much your relationship matters to Him.
3. He Makes His Spirit Available to Whoever Will Believe
Many people think salvation is a transaction: You believe in Jesus, you get your ticket to heaven, and then you’re on your own. God saves you and leaves you to figure out life.
That’s not what the Gospel teaches.
The Holy Spirit is God Himself living inside of you to relate with you, empower you, and be a part of your journey here on earth. He didn’t just save you and leave you. He moved in.
When you believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit takes residence in your life. He’s not distant. He’s not watching from afar. He’s with you—in your struggles, in your victories, in your confusion, in your clarity.
You are never alone. That’s the promise. That’s the relationship.
4. He Gave You His Written Word So You Can Recognize His Spoken Word
Here’s something crucial: God will never contradict Himself.
Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep know my voice.” But how do you know His voice? How do you distinguish between God’s voice and your own thoughts, or the enemy’s lies, or the noise of the world?
The answer is Scripture.
The closer you are to God’s written word, the clearer His spoken word will become. When you know the Bible, you develop a spiritual sensitivity to God’s voice. You recognize His character, His values, His heart. When He speaks to you—whether through circumstances, through other people, through that still small voice—you’ll recognize it because it aligns with who He is.
This is why Bible study isn’t just a religious duty. It’s the foundation for hearing God clearly.
5. He Gave You Various Means to Hear Him
God doesn’t speak in just one way. He’s creative. He’s personal. He meets you where you are.
Through the dreams of the night. Through visions. Through prophets. Through a still small voice. He is not silent. He is speaking. He wants to be heard.
Some of you hear God most clearly in prayer—that quiet conversation with Him. Others hear Him through Scripture that suddenly comes alive with new meaning. Some of you receive dreams that carry messages. Others sense His presence in nature, in music, in the counsel of wise friends.
God has given you multiple channels to hear Him because He wants you to know Him. He’s not playing hide-and-seek. He’s not making it impossible. He’s actively trying to communicate with you.
The question is: Are you listening?
The Real Question
So here’s where we land:
God wants a relationship with everyone. Not because we’ve earned it. Not because we deserve it. But because He has decided it. His desire for a relationship with you is not based on your performance or your worthiness. It’s based on His character—He is love, and love desires connection.
But here’s the shift that changes everything:
The question is not if God wants a relationship with you. The question is whether you’ll learn how to hear Him when He calls.
God is calling. He’s speaking. He’s making Himself available. He’s given you every tool you need to know Him deeply and intimately.
Will you answer?
What’s Next?
If you’re ready to develop deeper intimacy with God, here are three things you can do today:
- Read Scripture intentionally. Pick a book of the Bible and commit to reading it slowly, asking God to speak to you through it.
- Create space for prayer. Set aside time—even 15 minutes—to sit quietly with God and listen. Not just talk. Listen.
- Pay attention to how God speaks to you. Notice the dreams, the coincidences, the still small voice, the wise counsel. God is already speaking. You’re learning to recognize it.
Your relationship with God is the most important relationship you’ll ever have. It’s worth pursuing. It’s worth protecting. It’s worth everything.
And the beautiful part? He’s already pursuing you.
